NEXT SEMINAR:
Autumn 2026 - watch this space!
Through the guidance of Ludwik Renshi, attendees will gain insight into the bunkai (application analysis) that reveals the true depth of Okinawan martial traditions. Expect a change of emphasis and different approaches on each seminar day - making the weekend a comprehensive introduction to this style.

The focus of this training is the practical applications embedded within classical kata, particularly exploring the movements of Naihanchi, Pinan, Passai, Seisan, Kusanku and Niseishi kata, which contain sophisticated life-protection principles. These seminars delve into the original intent of kata motions as comprehensive self-defence systems. Participants will discover how seemingly simple movements contain multiple layers of application, including strikes, locks, throws, and vital point techniques.
Additionally, by request there will be some demonstrations of Oyata-style Kobudo weapons kata by Grzegorz Goworek Shiro Washi Ryu 6th Dan.
Introducing Shiro Washi Ryu Kempo, the ancient Okinawan classical Kempo passed down by Taika Oyata, interpreted and taught by Peter Polander Hanshi, 9th Dan
Shiro Washi Ryu Kempo represents the authentic transmission of Classical Okinawan Martial Arts through the lineage of Peter Polander, Hanshi 9th Dan, and his senior representative Ludwik Orthwein, 6th Dan.

Ludwik Orthwein Renshi holds the prestigious Shin Shu Ho recognition from Taika Oyata, signifying his status within the family transmission of these traditional teachings. These seminars offer a rare opportunity - and the first time in the United Kingdom - to explore these unchanged methods of Okinawan Kempo as they existed before the modifications which transformed them into Karate-dō.

Peter Polander Hanshi, 9th Dan, serves as the head of Shiro Washi Ryu Kempo and is a senior student of Taika Seiyu Oyata (1928–2012). He preserves and teaches the authentic martial arts passed down within the ancient Okinawan warrior clans, maintaining these traditions in their original form before pre-war Japanese modifications for mass education. Hanshi Polander travels internationally to conduct seminars, teaching Okinawan Kempo, Tuite Jutsu, Atemi Jutsu, Kyusho Jutsu and Kobudo whilst sharing historical insights into Okinawan martial arts development.

Taika Seiyu Oyata (1928–2012) was a renowned Okinawan martial arts master who preserved and taught the authentic fighting arts of ancient Okinawan warrior clans. He transmitted traditional techniques including Tuite Jutsu, Atemi Jutsu, Kyusho Jutsu and Kobudo in their original forms, before pre-war Japanese modifications for mass education. Oyata's teachings emphasised practical life-protection methods embedded within classical kata, maintaining combat-effective principles passed through generations of dedicated practitioners within the warrior lineage.
